In relation to the theme Living Water the proposed abstracted shape is associated with water ripples (energy expanding out through water). The flow of energy in the universe is what makes everything possible, time, space, matter and life. This dynamic shape also has associations to sound, the orbits of planets and atomic particles, the expanding universe, mandalas, eyes etc.The shape has a direct relationship with the circular motif used in the design of the library.
The disc size is 1.6m, fabrication in metal or a pearlescent paint finish over fibreglass. The finish will pick up light in such a way that the sculpture will constantly change in relation to its surroundings, as the sky changes, as people walk by, as cars come and go.
Design and Fabrication
The design will be carried out by the artist Peter Mcilwain with technical advice from Jason Waterhouse at Sculpture Co. This EOI has been discussed with Jason to determine viability of the concept. In stage 2 of the project Sculpture Co will assist in all aspects of the specification and budget.Sculpture Co will also fabricate and install the work. Sculpture Co has extensive experience and expertise in public art sculpture. For details see:
